Ogbonna completes Hammers move

West Ham United are delighted to announce that Juventus defender Angelo Ogbonna has completed his transfer to the Club.

Ogbonna, 27, arrives on a four-year deal after joining from the Italian Serie A side for an undisclosed fee.

The Italy international is the second Serie A player to make the move to the Boleyn Ground this summer, following Pedro Obiang's transfer from Sampdoria and he cannot wait to get going.

He told whufc.com: "I am delighted to have joined the Club. I wanted to play in the Premier League and am happy to be in London. My heart told me that the right decision was to play for West Ham United.

“I cannot wait to start working under Mr Bilic and with my new team-mates. I feel ready for this new adventure.”

A strong and powerful defender, Ogbonna won a host of admirers during his time with Juventus, in which he collected two Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italiana.

Born in Cassino in the Lazio region of Italy, Ogbonna began his youth career in his home town before being spotted by Torino at the age of 14.

He made his top flight debut at 18, and after gaining further experience with a loan spell at Crotone, he returned to establish himself in the Torino side.

The Granata suffered relegation in 2009, but Ogbonna helped them reclaim their spot at the top table before moving across town to Juventus in 2013.

The 6'3 defender continued his progress with the Old Lady, making 25 appearances in his debut season at Juventus and backing that up with the same number of league appearances last term.

He picked up league winners medals in both of his seasons with Juve, and was on the bench as they lost out to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final in May.

A natural at centre back who can also play at left back, Ogbonna has been capped ten times by his country and was a member of the Italy squad which finished as runners-up at UEFA Euro 2012.

I never pay too much attention to that kind of thing. It'd be like taking some of the shit you read on here seriously.

Re: Angelo Ogbonna
OTB, at least here you get split opinions on most players, which is natural. I couldn't find much positive stuff about Ogbonna, apart from when he first joined them.
I was hoping to find a bit of fan outrage at the mention of selling him al la Marseille re:Payet
The almost 100% negative stuff is worrying, if we are actually after him.

Thanks Alan, interesting stuff. Someone should tweet this link to Sulli, Gold and Bilic to ensure they are informed. BTW I do not have a twitter account, and I don't want one.

Re: Angelo Ogbonna
To be fair Juventus are at a standard far beyond us. What they consider shit we would most likely welcome at our level.

Remember we have had West Ham fans praising Nolan, Taylor, ONeil, Cole, Spector, Faubert, Repka, Lomas etc.

I've not really seen him play to make a judgement though. They might be right of course.

Re: Angelo Ogbonna
Hopefully Bilic will be impressed enough with Doneil Henry to give him a proper chance instead of re-loaning him to Blackburn Rovers where the fans took to him very well.

I repeat- we need another striker to complement Sakho. Austin fits the bill very well, and it seems we have the money to buy him.

"Blimey all those Juve fans tweeting in English"

Croe, not tweets, they're posts on the Juve forum.

Would they not be posting in Italian then?

Re: Angelo Ogbonna
No, it's the English language forum. Most of the big Italian clubs have them.

So really it's English fans watching it on TV rather than the views of actual Italian Juve fans.

Terry - wasn't Henry injured after just one appearance for Blackburn?... I think he will need a good loan to a top championship side until December before we know what he is capable of and if he can adapt to English football.

Henry completed two full matches at Blackburn in both of which he was named man of the match. In his third match he tore his hamstring which required surgery. The Blackburn manager has already requested he come back on loan.

"you can put a $#@!ing sack of potatoes at cb and it will do a better job than this ass clown.
how can you be so bad, I don't even know,
does he even try, him just walking around pisses me the $#@! off, at least when Bonucci was playing $#@! he showed a bit of passion, this $#@!, thinks he is pirlo being so nonchalant, but in reality he isn't even Serie A level.
$#@! off to Foggia please, Serie D is about your level "

Sounds like this forum, particularly the last bit.
